My day was spent with crossovers. Lots and lots of crossovers. Here they are:

BMW X5M. Not really a contender, but at under forty grand, not as crazy as you’d think. Stupidly fast and a complete sleeper. At one point we pulled up next to a 16 year old (or close) kid in a Scion FRS complete with radar detector. My dad flicked open the sports exhaust, and the look on the kid’s face when the bus next to him went roaring off at warp speed. He floored it too, and passed us once we slowed back down. So we passed him again. He wasn’t going to learn his lesson, and there’s no sport in “racing” something with just over 1/3 of the power, so we moved on. Still, an absurdly fun rig for scaring all who ride in it or pull up next to it.

BMW X5 Xdrive50i. This is much more realistic. It’s down 155hp from the M, but 400hp is still more than plenty. Very nice truck. I absolutely love the panoramic sunroof. And the power.

VW Touareg TDI Lux. Using Oppo logic, this brown diesel is the coolest car of the bunch. In reality, it’s the least cool. It’s a nice car with a nice interior, but even the gas version is just a little too slow and boring. Next.

The Infiniti FX35 Touring. We drove one a month ago on its own, and though, “Wow, this is a really nice car!” But when we drove it right after the BMWs, it suddenly seemed a tad slow, and the interior felt a notch or two below even the VW. It also lacked several of our favorite features like a panoramic roof. It’s not completely out of the running, but only a really stellar deal would get us in one, as it was something of a disappointment.

I left out one car. This is because I forgot to take a picture of it. It also happens to be our unanimous favorite and top contender, and you can see it in this picture I took:

Worst Cadillac my ass. The DeVille DTS is one of the best luxe sedans of the time. Was certainly the best selling when new, has a motor Clarkson did nothing but gush about its awesomeness (in a Cadillac!). Was the first car to have night vision, 2nd car to have magneride, has massage seats with active power bolsters that are front and rear heated/cooled, and 3 zone climate control, and the best looking OEM wheels of all time. So you can shut right the fuck up about the DeVille DTS.
